The Duchess Marie Adelaide of Burgundy later became Dauphine of France and the mother of King Louis XV

A Large partly patinated bronze figure of Acteon running semi-nude over naturalistic ground a horn is his left hand and a pheasant in his right raised hand. Signed A. Gaudez. The circular base with an inscribed plaque and on a marble base. H: 44”.

 

 

A classical bronze bust of an Ephebe (youth) on a marble base with accents of gold in keeping with ancient Greek tradition . Likely after ‘Ephebe as a Lamp Bearer’ excavated 1926 in Pompeii, now in the Getty Collection. Marked ;Priessmann Bauer Co. Műnchen’. H: 24”

HORACE

Fine classical bronze sculpture of Horace, the great Roman poet clothed in toga and wearing the poet’s laurel crown, seated on a Curule chair with pen and scroll on which is written a statement in French which roughly translates:”Led happy pastoral art, which with their own hands our forefathers cultivated their fields in peace and saw freedom in their affairs. Horace”. H: 16.5”, French, 19th century. Excellent detail and condition.

DEMOSTHENES

Fine classical bronze sculpture of the Greek statesman and orator Demosthenes (384-322 BC). Demosthenes lived in ancient Athens and is also known for a revolt against Alexander the Great which ultimately failed. Based on a Roman copy of the original Greek statue. Italian, marked A. Rohrich Roma (important foundry). Ca. 1840. H: 19”, excellent detail and condition.
