  ABOUT LARS HEGELUND

Lars Hegelund studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen. After graduation he was awarded a grant from the Minestry of Cultural Affairs to teach at the Royal Academy and develop a new concept for 'Arctic Architecture and Design', on which subject he published a book. In 1972 he was awarded a grant to stay at the San Cataldo Monastery in Italy (a secluded workplace for Danish artists).
As an architect Lars Hegelund (at times in collaboration with his brother Anders Hegelund) won 4 major first prices and was awarded 6 medals for architectural achievements.
In 1985 The National Foundation of Art chose Lars Hegelund for their 3 year grant providing the basis for further studies of art and design. The new ideas were featured in his book 'The Things Around Us', a series of TV productions by the National Danish Television and a number of educational magazines which he produced for the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
For 7 years Lars Hegelund was a chairman of 'the Commitee for Architecture and Design in Schools' under 'the National Federation of Danish Architects' and lectured throughout Europe including at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge in the UK.
Based of his accomplishments Lars Hegelund was granted resident status in the US as 'a person of extraordinary ability' and took up residence in Fort Lauderdale where he focuses on a high quality art gallery and a spirited approach to non representational painting.
