Pair of Egyptian Revival 19th Century Obsidian Obelisk Models with Hieroglyphs

A pair of striking Egyptian Revival likely French obelisks standing almost 21 inches tall, crafted of polished and incised obsidian separated by faux bronze accents. The bases feature images of the Egyptian gods Kohnsu, the god of the moon and Mut, the mother goddess of Thebes surmounted by carved hieroglyphs upwards to the top. The three other sides are undecorated. A similar pair of obelisk models are illustrated in The Collector’s Eye: Masterpieces of Egyptian Art from the Thalassic collection, 2001, by P. Lacovara, B. Teasley.
