“Still Life with Roses”

by Vladislav Peruta (Ukrainian, born 1978)

Vladislav Peruta is an emerging impressionist painter in keeping with the artistic traditions of his native country and Russia. He studied with F. Zakharov in Crimea and later at the Kiev Academy of Art 2002-2008. With vigorous brushstrokes and a subtle palette this artist proves again and again to be among the most promising of his generation.

 

“The Architect”

Ivan Kirichenkon was born in  Ochertino (Ukraine) and studied at the Kiev Art Institute 1935-41. He maintained studio in Stalino/Donetsk, Ukraine and was much sought after by the authorities for monumental assignments and socialist realistic art. He began exhibiting at regional and ‘All Union’ exhibitions 1947 and from 1947 to 51 he taught as a professor at the Architectural School in Stalino. Kirichino in included in the important reference book ‘Russian and Soviet Painters’ by British scholar Mattew Cullerne Bown.

 

“Ballerina”

Gertrud W.-Lindquist studied in Stockholm, at the Academie la Grande Chaumiere in Paris and at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen. She had her first personal exhibition in Malmo (Sweden) 1944 where after she exhibited frequently at the most prestigious venues. She is represented in the best Scandinavian collections including the Art Museum of Malmo. In later years her soft impressionistic style has been popular with large audiences and it is worth mentioning that a painting by this well listed artist sold at Christie’s in London (1998) for $ 11,809.

 

“The Commander”

Anatoli Dovzhenko studied at the Art Institute in Dnepropetrovsk until he was admitted into the legendary Art Institute of Kiev. He was favored by the Party Authorities who repeatedly commissioned him to depict and glorify important moments of Soviet history. Dovzhenko exhibited after 1960 at regional, republic and ‘All Union’ (USSR) exhibitions and works by his hand hang in the Museum of Fine Art in Vinnitsa. Anatoli Dovzhenko is included in the important book ‘Russian and Soviet Painters’ bry British scholar Mattew Cullerne Bown.

    
"Tribal Dance"

Karl Larsen is considered on of Scandinavia's first and most important Expressionists. He was a member of 'The Four" who introduced Expressionism in Copenhagen. He made his debut in 1916 at the 'KE" Exhibition in Copenhagen and the following year at the his picture 'The stairwell' was pronounced 'a sensation' by the critics. Works by this pioneer of modern art are held by Th Royal Museum of Fine Art and other fine collections. Literature: 'Karl Larsen' by Jan Zibrandtsen; 'Modern Dansih Painting' by the same author; 'The New Danish Art History, vol. 6 by Hanne Abildgaard. In 1970 Karl Larsen visited Uganda.
 

“Portrait of a Young Man”

Attributed to Nikolai Alekseevich Dubina

(Russian/Ukrainian, born 1939)

Here is an intriguing study for a portrait by a distinguished Soviet artist in keeping with the Russian impressionist tradition. Nikolai Dubina studied at the Art Institute of Kiev and later on maintained studio in Donetsk/Stalino, Ukraine. He is known for his ability to catch the personality of the sitter with vigorous brush strokes and intense color. Nikolai Dubina is included in the important book ‘Russian and Soviet Painters’ by British scholar Mattew Cullerne Bown.

   
“A Good Dog”

Rud Jacobsen studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen and exhibited at the prestigious Charlottenborg Palace after 1919 as well as at a host of other major exhibitions. He is considered a leading member of the ‘Vaerlose School of Artists’ who brought a new sense of modernism into the traditional Turn of the Century concept. He painted mostly landscapes but we also find a number of fine portraits and genre paintings in his oeuvre. This nominated and well listed artist is represented in The Art Museum of Maribo. A dedication by the artist’s wife to her grandson is found on the back of the canvas.

“Academy Study of a Young Man”

Poul Jerndorff studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen and exhibited at the prestigious Charlottenborg Palace after 1911 as well as at a host of major national and international exhibitions. In 1914 Poul Jerndorff ws awarded the Academy Gold Medal, called the Eckersberg Medal. Works by this nominated artist hang in the Johan Hansen Collection, the Art Museum of Malmo (Sweden) and the Art Museum of Maribo. This artist is included in all major sources of international art reference.

Hagedorn was born in Berlin and settled in England 1905. He studied at Manchester School of Technology, Slade and Paris. His modern style in the young years earned him the name 'Manchester's first Modernist'. Karl Hagedorn had a host of successful exhibitions at some of the most prestigious British galleries. Works by his hand hang in the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and Manchester City Art Gallery. Public auction records up to $ 20,000.

Genri Yagodkin studied at the Art Institute in Kiev and later became a member of the Ukrainian Artists Association exhibiting at regional as well as All Ukraine exhibitions. He lives and maintains studio in Kiev, Ukraine. Genri Yagodkin is included in the important book “Russian and Soviet Painters’ by Britisj scholar Mattew Cullerne Bown.

 

“Drying in the Early Spring”

 Yakov Ocheretko was born in the Poltava region and graduated from Kiev Institute of Art 1948. He was one of the most popular painters of West Ukraine and his works hang in a host of Ukrainian museums and private collections. He lived and painted in Chernovtsy until his death in the 1980’s.

Ocheretko is included in the book ‘Russian and Soviet Painters 1900-1980’s’ by British scholar Matthew Cullerne Bown.

Elena Yanchak lived and worked in Odessa. She managed on one hand to succeed within the realm of Soviet "Socialist Realism' as required by the authorities, and on the other to develop her own modernist style inspired by community life and the beauty of her native region. Elena Yanchak participated in numerous exhibitions and became a well known personality in Odessa's intellectual circles. Literature: 'Russian and Soviet Painters, 1900-1980's' by Matthew Cullerne Bown.
 

“Mill Work”

Mikhail F. Pushnoy was born in Aleisk, Altai Region and studied at the Dnepropetrovsk Art College until 1949. Hereafter he studied at the Kiev Art Institute until 1955.  This nominated artist is included in the important book ‘Russian and Soviet Painters 1900-1980’s’ by British scholar Matthew Cullerne Bown.

 
 
"The Tiger Girl"

Anita Paulsson studied at the Art Academy in Skane with professors Gunnar Sandin and Gunnar Friberg. She started exhibiting in 1974 (at the St. Gertrud Gallery in Malmo) and soon her talent propelled her into numerous one man shows and awards. Works by her hand hang in the Art Museum of Malmo, the Swedish Parliament and a host of major public collections. This unique painting with all its radiant symbolism brings a lot of joy to the viewer.

“Resistance”

Here is a very evocative motif captured with dramatic composition and color reminiscent of earlier time’s depictions of historical uprisings. The artist is worked with a series of paintings depicting scenes of World War II. The painting is a unique example of the Soviet ‘Socialist Realism’ but executed in an impressionist style which was not always favored by the Soviet authorities. It is a painting of great artistic and historic value.

Viggo Madsen studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Copenjhagen and at the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited at the prestigious Charlottenborg Palace after 1904, in New York 1912, in Stockolm 1919 and at several other international exhibitions. In 1932 he was awarded the Soedring Medal. Works by Viggo Madsen are held by the Royal Museum of Fine Art, the legendary Art Museum of Skagen, the Art Museum of Malmo (Sweden) and 3 other art museums.
