Simeon Eugene Thivier was born in Paris, France into a family where an artistic career was not welcome. However, he managed to become a sculptor while his brother, Emile Thivier (1858-1922), was an academic painter. In a neoclassical style, Eugene Thivier realized allegories of fortune and love. His most famous work ‘Le Cauchemar’ (the nightmare) a white marble group is displayed at the Musee des Augustins in Toulouse, France.
