Bartsch (Danish, 1829-1908) 17” x 24”, oil on canvas, signed ca. 1880 Carl Bartsch studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen and exhibited at the prestigious Charlottenborg Palace after 1843. 1852-64 he worked for the Royal Copenhagen porcelain manufacturer creating some of their most delightful designs. Carl Bartsch is widely known for his wonderful depictions of cows and other domestic animals some of which have found their way into the most distinctive collections: the Art Museum of Ribe, the City Museum of Copenhagen, the National Art Association etc.

In 1882 on of her works was acquired by the Imperial Art Collection. In 1893 she exhibited in Chicago where she was awarded a medal. The popularity of her paintings especially among the nobility propelled her career and exhibitions in Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Prague and other European cities.  “At a Distance” By Valentin G. Taranenko (Russian/Ukrainian, born 1938) 8” x 9”, oil on card, signed verso Valentin Taranenko was born in Lugansk (Voroshylovograd). In 1960 he graduated from Kharkov Art Institute where G. Bondarenko and V. Myronenko were his professors. Taranenko quickly became known for his impressionistic depictions of industrial motifs of which there were an abundance during the Soviet era. With a unique sense of masses, light and color the artist lets us discover qualities otherwise bypassed or ignored. This particular work is nothing but a small gem. “Resistance” By A. Yatsyuk (Russian/Ukrainian, born 1924) 14” x 18”, oil on canvas, signed verso A study for this oil in tempera is available Here is a very evocative motif captured with dramatic composition and color reminiscent of earlier time’s depictions of historical uprisings. The artist is worked with a series of paintings depicting scenes of World War II. The painting is a unique example of the Soviet ‘Socialist Realism’ but executed in an impressionist style which was not always favored by the Soviet authorities.
