Karl Kaufmann, a painter of landscapes, seascapes, urban, architectural and Oriental scenes, was born in Neuplachavitz, Austria in 1843.His specialty was Oriental village scenes and scenes of Venice. In certain instances, his village scenes depicted imaginary views of the Orient.He is known to have used pseudonyms, including Carnier Henri and Marchand Charles. Works by Karl Kauffmann are much in demand, in 2010 a View of Constantinople sold for $ 51,890. The artist died in 1905 in Vienna.
