Painted terracotta, H: 20 in. signed.
Paul Louis Emile Loiseau-Rousseau studied with Barrau and exhibited at the Paris Salon where he was awarded an array of medals and honors. His oeuvre is represented in the museums of Amiens (Salem, Negre), Beaufort (Bebe se Amuse), Bourges (Cujas), Brest (Crispin), Langres (Negre du Soudan) and several others. He found his subject matters in the French colonies in Africa as in this subtle portrait of a young Berber woman.
