About Lars Hegelund

Lars Frederick Hegelund studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After graduation he was awarded a grant from the Minestry of Cultural Affairs to teach at the Royal Academy and develop a new concept for ‘Arctic Architecture and Design’, on which subject he published a book. In 1972 he was awarded a grant to stay at the San Cataldo Monastery in Italy (a secluded workplace for Danish artists). As an architect Lars Frederick Hegelund (at times in collaboration with his brother Anders Hegelund) won 4 major first prices and was awarded 6 medals for architectural achievements. In 1985 The National Foundation of Art chose Lars Frederick Hegelund for their 3 year grant providing the basis for further studies of art and design. The new ideas were featured in his book ‘The Things Around Us’, a series of TV productions by the National Danish Television and a number of educational magazines which he produced for the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. For 7 years Lars Frederick Hegelund was a chairman of ‘the Commitee for Architecture and Design in Schools’ under ‘the National Federation of Danish Architects’ and lectured regularly throughout Europe including at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge in the UK. Based of his accomplishments Lars Frederick Hegelund was granted resident status in the US as ‘a person of extraordinary ability’ and took up residence in Fort Lauderdale where he focuses on a high spirited art gallery and the promotion of art in the community.
